Terms of Service

Last updated: February 25, 2026

1. Acceptance of Terms

By accessing or using HangoutAlert ("the Service") at https://HangoutAlert.com or our mobile applications, you agree to be bound by these Terms of Service. If you do not agree, please do not use the Service.

2. Description of Service

HangoutAlert is a social event planning platform that allows users to create and manage hangout events, coordinate RSVPs, chat with participants, set polls for locations and times, discover activity ideas, and integrate with Google Calendar and Google Contacts for scheduling and invitations.

3. User Accounts

  • You must be at least 13 years old to use HangoutAlert.
  • You are responsible for maintaining the confidentiality of your account credentials.
  • You agree to provide accurate and complete information when registering.
  • You are responsible for all activity that occurs under your account.
  • You may delete your account at any time from the Profile page.

4. Google Account Integration

When you connect your Google account, you authorize HangoutAlert to:

  • Google Calendar: Read your calendar to suggest available time slots and create calendar entries for events you confirm or RSVP to. You can revoke this permission at any time via your Google Account settings.
  • Google Contacts: Read your contacts to autocomplete invitee names and emails when you invite people to events. This data is used only within the active session and is not stored on our servers.

You may revoke Google permissions at any time without affecting your HangoutAlert account.

5. User Content

You retain ownership of content you create (event names, descriptions, messages, proposals). By submitting content, you grant HangoutAlert a limited, non-exclusive license to display and transmit that content to other users of the same event or conversation. You are solely responsible for the content you post.

You agree not to post content that is:

  • Illegal, harassing, defamatory, or abusive
  • Spam or unsolicited commercial messages
  • Infringing on third-party intellectual property rights

6. Notifications & Communications

By using HangoutAlert, you may receive email reminders and push notifications related to events you participate in. You can manage notification preferences in the Profile settings. Transactional emails (e.g., event invitations you trigger) cannot be fully disabled as they are core to the service.

6.1 SMS/Text Message Invitations

If you invite someone to an event who has a phone number on file but no email address, HangoutAlert, via our messaging provider (Twilio), first sends them a text asking whether they'd like to receive event invites this way. Event details are sent by text only after they reply YES — we do not text anyone the details of an event before they've opted in.

  • Message frequency varies based on how many events you're invited to.
  • Message and data rates may apply.
  • Reply STOP at any time to opt out of future text messages from HangoutAlert; reply HELP for help.
  • Opting out of SMS does not affect email or in-app/push notifications, and does not affect any other part of your HangoutAlert account.
  • Consenting to receive a text is never a condition of using HangoutAlert — texts are sent only when someone with your phone number invites you to an event, not as a signup requirement.
  • Carriers are not liable for delayed or undelivered messages.

7. Prohibited Uses

You agree not to:

  • Reverse-engineer, scrape, or attempt to gain unauthorized access to the Service
  • Use the Service to send spam or unsolicited mass invitations
  • Impersonate another person or create fake accounts
  • Interfere with the operation of the Service or its infrastructure

8. Disclaimers & Limitation of Liability

HangoutAlert is provided "as is" without warranties of any kind. We do not guarantee uninterrupted availability. To the maximum extent permitted by law, HangoutAlert shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, or consequential damages arising from your use of the Service.

9. Termination

We reserve the right to suspend or terminate accounts that violate these Terms. You may terminate your account at any time from the Profile page. Upon termination, your data will be permanently deleted per our Privacy Policy.

10. Changes to Terms

We may update these Terms from time to time. Continued use of the Service after changes are posted constitutes your acceptance of the revised Terms. We will provide notice of material changes via email or in-app notification.

11. Governing Law

These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of New York, USA, without regard to conflict of law principles.
